Today on Deglazing Delicious I just wanted to set you guys up for SUCCESS! in the kitchen and let you know what my fav kitchen appliances/utensils/doo dods etc.
So I evolved into this hobby of cooking pretty much after getting married. I was not one of those kids who grew up cooking (I am far too lazy for that!) but soon after getting married I realized that my hubby was a hungry hippo so…I cooked! A lot. And eventually it turned into so much fun! I mean its the best hobby in the world, you get to eat what you make. I mean cmon. Do you get to eat photography? Nope! Or art? Nope! Just sayin….
OK! So a few of my favorite things (did you hum it? like the song? yeah you did! your so cool)
I’m gonna tell you a shocking secret……
SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Well not officially but hey the snow has melted, I’ve put away my parka and the temps are above 0 so color me happy!
So I made this for dinner for the hubs and I because I am basically one of the laziest cooks alive and love everything made in the slow cooker if its at all humanly possible. While we were eating it he was like….you should really post this on the blog its really good. So I stopped him eating (haha bet he didn’t expect that to happen) and piled it all on a plate and took photos. It would look even more amazing with some chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds on it but unfortunately it was grocery day so I didn’t have anything else in the fridge.
I have the best news of all time (or at least this year fo suuuure).
My little niece Alexis was born to my awesome sister and bro-in-law just a few days ago! This is my first time being an aunt so needless to say I am so pumped. Shes so cute (I know I’m biased but she really is) and snuggly. I have been busy making the new parents meals cause I can only imagine howwww tired they are and how making food would be the last thing on new parents minds. It made me think that I totally need a batch casserole post! Buuuutttt….that being said I am tiiiired and ready to let lose (LOL yes my sister has a new baby and I am complaining I’m tired…but really).
Its still cold outside. Everyday is like. boots.coat.sweater.scarf.mittens. AAHHHH! I need the snow to melt and the days to be longer. Not quite winter, not quite summer. That sweet spot that we call spring. This recipe reminds me of spring…the carrots, the lightened up version of a classic dish (with a twist!)…delicioso!
Oh this recipe. What a labor of love it became. Let me start by saying that my brother-in-law Nick very subtly (not really) requested that I make pretzel on a few occasions (multiple). So I thought, you know what, yes, this is a great idea. Its out of my comfort zone, its cool, its interesting and mostly….its delicious.
I know what your thinking. Your thinking, Andrea…the title of this post has the words salad AND the word candied in it. Youaremyhero/Ithoughtsaladsweresupposedtobehealthy.
Firstly, you are welcome. Secondly, believe it or not (but seriousy believe it), these candied pecans are taking a note from the healthy side of things. I used coconut oil and coconut sugar to candy them. HUGE win for both candy and salad lovers.
Guys! Its chili time! BOO YA!
Let me list the ways of how I love thee….warm, comforting, topping-full. *sigh*
However, this was not always the case. As a kid I hated chilli. I used to cry when I found out that it was dinner (yes I was a dramatic kid…sorry mom). As I got older and started working, I was always on the lookout for a quick meal that I could make when I got home that was satisfying and stretched for days. So as much as I lifted my nose at chilli, I started making it a couple times a month. Every time I made the dish, I would change a thing or two to make it more my style…omit the peppers, add more chilli powder, make it spicy, top with cheese, greek yogurt, chives and BAM it was my new favourite dish.
Alright y’all! Meatballs! Meatballs are totes my jam! aka I love meatballs!
Meatballs are so versatile. They are an every season food. They’re good in summer (with a little avocado cilantro crema on top), good in the fall (a little asian glaze action), good for winter (buffalo chicken meatballs for your wicked fun superbowl party) and good in spring (chicken meataball). See what I’m sayin? The possibilities truly are endless.
My love for meatballs emerged as probably everyones does….spaghetti and meatballs. Oh those noodles with that slurpable red sauuuce and those juicy italian meatballs. Mmm mm.
